About the event

Discomfort arises in all our lives in countless ways. Maybe it's that moment of social awkwardness at a gathering, the harsh inner critic judging your words, or a sudden feeling of not belonging while sitting in a public space. These feelings visit us all.


The habitual reflex: move away from the discomfort. Change the subject. Reach for your phone. Leave the situation. Those who have experienced anxiety or depression might recognize this pull most intensely, but we all feel it in our own ways.


Change starts with pausing. One practice I enjoy is to pause when I pass through a door. Choose a doorway—perhaps your office door, your front door, or the bathroom door—and practice pausing each time you cross its threshold. This brief moment breaks the autopilot cycle of reaction. A pause might be just one conscious breath, feeling your feet connecting with the ground, or simply stopping movement…
